Mina's Forum — User Manual
As of October 18, 2026
Mina's Forum lives at minastuff.com/forum. It's a small message board where anyone with an account can start a discussion, reply to anyone else's post, and – if they're an admin – manage accounts and keep things tidy. This guide walks through every part of it: signing up, posting, formatting text, replying, and (for admins) managing the board.
Everything on the board updates live – when someone else posts or replies, it shows up on your screen automatically, with no need to refresh the page.
Signing Up
When you first open the forum, you'll see a Log In / Sign Up tab. Click Sign Up and fill in five fields:
- First name
- Last name
- Email – this becomes your sign-in identity, so it needs to be a real email address (something with an @ and a domain, like
you@example.com)
- Password – at least 4 characters
- Repeat password – type the same password again
Click Sign Up. A few things are checked before your account is created:
- First and last name can't be blank.
- The email has to look like a real email address.
- The password needs to be at least 4 characters.
- Password and Repeat password have to match exactly – if they don't, you'll see “Passwords don't match” right on the form, before anything is sent to the server.
- The email can't already belong to another account – if it does, you'll see “That email is already registered.”
Once your account is created, you're signed in right away – but brand-new accounts start out waiting on admin approval. You'll see a short “waiting for approval” screen instead of the board. As soon as an admin approves you, that screen moves on to the board by itself – no need to refresh or log in again. Your posts will show up under your real name (first and last name), not your email.
Logging In
Click the Log In tab and enter your Email and Password. That's it – you'll land back on the threads page, logged in, with your name showing at the top (“Logged in as ___”).
A couple of notes:
- A handful of accounts were created before sign-up asked for an email address. Those accounts can still log in by typing their original username in the Email field – it works exactly the same way.
- Once you're logged in, you stay logged in across visits until you click Log out. There's no “remember me” checkbox to worry about – it's automatic.
- There's currently no “forgot password” / reset-by-email flow. If you forget your password, you'll need to ask an admin (currently Mina or Mike) to help.
Navigating the Forum
The threads page is split into two sections:
- AI for Education
- Tools and Resources
Every thread belongs to exactly one of these. Scroll down and you'll see both sections, each listing its own threads.
Within each category, threads are sorted by trending activity, not just by when they were posted. A thread's position depends on two things: how many replies it has, and how recently something happened in it. A thread that just got a fresh reply jumps back up near the top, even if it's older – and a thread that's gone quiet for a while will drift down, even if it originally had a lot of replies. This keeps the most active conversations near the top of each category, rather than just the newest ones.
Each thread row shows its title, a short preview of the first post, who started it, how long ago it was last active, and how many replies it has. Click anywhere on a thread row to open it.
Creating a Thread
- Click the New Thread button near the top of the threads page.
- A form drops open. Pick a Category from the dropdown – AI for Education or Tools and Resources. This decides which section the thread will live in; it can't be changed after the thread is posted, so pick the one that fits.
- Give it a Title (up to 100 characters) – this is what shows up in the thread list.
- Write your Message in the box below the title. This is a real formatting box – see Formatting Your Posts below for everything you can do in it (bold, italic, links, images).
- Click Start Thread.
Your thread appears instantly – you're taken straight into it – and it shows up for everyone else on the threads page right away, filed under whichever category you picked.
Every message box – whether you're starting a thread or writing a reply – has a small toolbar underneath it: B, I, Link, Image. This is a real rich-text editor: when you make something bold, it actually turns bold right there as you type. There's no special typing syntax to learn (no asterisks or anything like that).
Bold
- Select some text, then click B – that text becomes bold.
- Click B with nothing selected, and it starts a bold section at your cursor – keep typing and it stays bold until you turn it off.
- The B button itself lights up (turns solid) whenever your cursor is sitting inside bold text, so you always know if “bold mode” is on.
Italic
- Works exactly the same way as Bold, just for italics. The I button lights up the same way when your cursor is in italic text.
Link
- Click Link and a small box pops up right under the toolbar (not a big popup in the middle of the screen).
- If you had text selected, it's pre-filled as the link's label. Otherwise, type whatever you want the link to say in the Link text field.
- Type the web address in the Goes to field. You don't need to type the “https://” part – if you leave it off, it gets added automatically.
- Click Insert. The link appears in your message, styled and clickable, showing your chosen label – not the raw web address.
- Click Cancel, click outside the box, or press Escape to back out without inserting anything.
Image
- Click Image and a similar small box appears, asking for an Image URL (a link to a picture online, ending in something like
.jpg, .png, .gif, or .webp).
- Click Insert and the picture embeds directly in your post – not just a link to it.
Typing a web address directly
- You don't have to use the Link or Image buttons at all if you don't want to. If you just type or paste a plain web address into your message – starting with
http://, https://, or even just www. – it automatically becomes a clickable link once you post.
- The same goes for a plain link to a picture – it automatically embeds as an image, even without using the Image button.
- A trailing period or comma right after a web address (like at the end of a sentence) is left out of the link, so it doesn't accidentally break the address or get included where it doesn't belong.
Replying to Posts
Open any thread and you'll see the original post, followed by its replies. Here's the part that makes this different from a lot of simple comment sections: you can reply to the original post, or to any individual reply – not just the top of the thread.
- Every single post in a thread – the original one, and every reply – has its own Reply button right underneath it.
- Click Reply under a specific message to respond directly to that message. Your reply appears nested (indented) underneath it, so it's clear what you're responding to.
- This means a thread can branch into several side conversations at once – someone can reply to the original post while someone else replies to a reply three levels deep, and both stay visually organized under whatever they're replying to.
- Each reply box has the exact same formatting toolbar described above (Bold, Italic, Link, Image) – formatting works the same no matter how deep you're replying.
- Click Reply again on the same message to close the box without sending anything.
Live Updates
The board updates in real time. If you're looking at the threads list and someone starts a new thread or replies to an existing one, it appears on your screen automatically – no refresh needed. The same is true while you're reading inside a thread: if someone else replies while you're there, their reply shows up right away.
If your connection ever drops the live feed for some reason, the page quietly checks for updates every 20 seconds as a backup, so you're never too far out of date.
Admin Guide
If your account is an admin, you'll see an extra Admin button next to Log out at the top of the page. Everyone else doesn't see it at all.
Approving new sign-ups
At the top of the Admin page is a Pending approval list – everyone who's signed up but can't see the board yet. Click Approve next to someone's name to let them in. The moment you approve them, their own screen updates automatically and takes them straight to the board – they don't need to do anything on their end. If the list is empty, it just says “No one is waiting on approval.”
The Admin page
Below Pending approval is a list of every registered account. For each one, you'll see:
- Their name and email address
- Whether they're currently an admin (marked “(admin)” next to their name)
- How many posts they've made
- When they joined
- A Make admin / Remove admin button
Granting or removing admin rights
Click Make admin on anyone's row to promote them, or Remove admin to take the role away. The change takes effect immediately – the page refreshes itself to show the new state.
One safeguard: you can't remove your own admin status from this page. This is intentional – it stops anyone from accidentally locking themselves out of the admin tools. If admin rights need to change hands entirely, another admin has to do it.
Deleting posts
As an admin, you'll see a small delete link next to the author/timestamp line on every single post – the original post of a thread, and every reply.
- Deleting a thread's original post deletes the entire thread – every reply inside it goes too.
- Deleting a reply deletes just that reply, along with anything nested underneath it (replies to that reply, and so on).
Deletions happen immediately for everyone looking at the board, and cannot be undone – there's a confirmation prompt before anything is removed, so take a second look before confirming.
Tips & Troubleshooting
“Passwords don't match” – the Password and Repeat password fields on sign-up have to be identical, character for character. Retype both if you're unsure.
“That email is already registered” – someone (maybe you, on an earlier visit) already signed up with that email. Try logging in instead.
Forgot your password? – there's no self-service reset yet. Ask an admin (Mina or Mike) for help.
A link or image isn't showing up right – double check the web address is correct and starts with (or can safely be assumed to start with) http:// or https://. Image addresses need to actually point at a picture file (ending in .jpg, .png, .gif, or .webp) for it to embed as an image rather than just a link.
Works on phones too – the forum is a normal web page, so it works in any modern browser, phone or computer. There's nothing to install.
Logging out doesn't delete anything – your posts and replies stay exactly where they are. It just ends your current session, so you'll need to log back in with your email and password next time.
No topic categories beyond the two – every thread has to be either “AI for Education” or “Tools and Resources.” There's currently no way to change a thread's category after it's posted, so pick carefully when creating one.
In the bottom-right corner of the page, there's a small round logo button with a little bow on it. Click it.
The screen fades to a soft pink, and the color seems to melt right off the words in front of you, revealing a sparkly “BY MINA” underneath. After a moment, it melts back to normal and fades away – just a little signature touch on the site, with no effect on anything you're doing.
